Is BBC or Met Office more accurate? ›

I trust BBC weather for my area. Seems pretty accurate most of the time. I use both Met Office and BBC Weather apps on my phone. They can both be wrong but I find that the Met Office one is more accurate, more often.

In a composite measure of accuracy, the Weather Channel and Weather Underground came top, AccuWeather fifth, MeteoGroup (the BBC's new provider) sixth and the BBC ninth (based on Met Office forecasts). On the correct prediction of precipitation, MeteoGroup came fourth overall and the BBC 10th of the 12.

When it comes to weather, in general, the accuracy rate for a 24-hour forecast is about 95 percent. For a three-day forecast: about 86 percent. And for a five-day forecast: about 75 percent.

If you check the forecast at 2pm on the website, we may have since received an updated set of data, and as such, the forecast available online could have changed from the one you saw earlier on TV. Similarly, the forecast for a typical UK location on the website is updated every hour.
