What is blossom gel polish? ›

In case you aren't familiar with it, Blooming Gel is a thin viscosity product that allows gel polish to disperse — or “bloom” — on top of it, creating unique designs. Depending on how many colors you use and what tools you manipulate it with, you can use Blooming Gel to create all different types of nail art looks.

Can I have blooming gel with normal nail polish? Unfortunately, blooming gel is a curing-only formula. Having said that, if you want to try a similar effect with normal nail polish, you can use a base coat and work quickly with colour before the paint dries to get that diffused look.

Nail artists always start blooming gel nail art with two layers of a cured base color before painting one coat of blooming gel polish over nails. Before curing, the nail artist will add regular polish, either as drawn on shapes or drops from a brush, that will start moving and blooming on its own.

Blooming gel is a special base gel coat that causes any colored polish to disperse once applied. Hana says that it works by expanding or giving polish that "blooming" effect (think like a flower in the process of opening up and going into full bloom) to create a unique pattern of color.

I found that using a gel base coat. does the same exact thing as a blooming gel.

Tip: the longer you leave the gel before curing, the more it will 'blossom. ' Once you've finished applying all your Blossom Gel and are happy with the design, cure for 60 seconds. You can then add further detail to your design if you wish - above, we've used gel paint.

How often should you take a break from gel nails? ›

You should wait about two to three weeks between getting gel manicures. This time is important because the process of putting on and taking off gel polish can be hard on your nails. If you do gel manicures too often, your nails might become thin and weak. Taking a break helps your nails get stronger again.

Why does OPI only sell gel to salons? OPI's gel products are created with salons and nail technicians in mind. They are made for professional use only and should only be applied by a qualified nail technician. Because of this, all OPI gel products are sold directly to professionals.

While the process of applying the polish is similar for both a regular and gel manicure, gel polish needs to be cured with UV light after each layer is applied, including the base and top coat. It's a lengthier process and, as a result, the cost of service is higher at most salons.

If you don't have blooming gel. or you've tried it and worn a fan, try using base coat instead. Start with a base color of your choice. and fully cure. Once cured, do a thin coat of your base coat or blooming gel.
