Have We Reached French Manicure Fatigue? Here's the Truth (2)

Have we reached French mani fatigue? Based on social media, not quite yet: There's no escaping the classic nail design when opening up your Insta or scrolling on your FYP. In fact, everyone seems to be rocking this '90s classic — and for good reason.

"The thing that makes the French manicure such a classic and timeless design is the clean and crisp look of the line," says celebrity manicurist and educatorMimi D. "Something about that French line makes nails look so perfect."

Plus, it's fairly easy to do a French manicure at home. Start by choosing two colors: one for the tip and a second to cover the rest of the nail. Then, to get that crisp French tip, Mimi D. recommends using a liner brush to get a precise, clean line, as well as a clean-up brush for around the cuticles.

Also part of its staying power: The French mani gives uniformity to your nails that give it that polished (pun intended) look, says Mimi D. In other words, the French manicure is not going out of style — but it is evolving. Here, three ways she suggests modernizing it.

The Multicolor French Manicure

Try playing with the color of the tip. "I love wearing a multicolor French manicure where each finger is a different color," says Mimi. These rainbow nails are especially fun and perfect for the summer.

The Neon French Manicure

It's hard to go wrong with neon. "With the warmer weather finally feeling like it’s here to stay, French manis in neon, graphic, and animal prints are trending," says Mimi. Go for a riff, like these sunshine-dripped nails, to bring out the joyful vibes.

The Metallic French Manicure

Finally, anything with a chrome finish is on-trend for this summer — French manicures included. We especially love this cobalt-blue chrome, which contrasts against a bare nail nicely for any warm adventures or parties you'll have this season.
