The Red Thumb Reminder project is an initiative that encourages men and women to paint one of their thumbnails red, so that they are conscious of not texting and driving.
The social campaign was initiated by Steve Babco*ck, who was inspired by his daughter’s habit of tying a red string around her finger as a memory aid for school. The Red Thumb Reminder reinvents the age-old technique with painted fingernails.
Even if you’re a non-driver, but want to show support for the project, paint your thumb anyway — someone is guaranteed to ask you about it. The project is encouraging people to share their red-painted thumbnails across social media with the hashtag "redthumbreminder" — but only when you’re safe and off of the road, of course.
